What's your opinion on Headless Cross if you've heard it? Tony Martin is a criminally underrated vocalist, and Headless Cross is the best they did with him I think. It's such a shame that so few people acknowledge the Martin years.

This is basically power-doom metal.

That's what's up. Once I finally discovered the 'occult' music tag my searching because so much more streamlined.

I know a couple songs from it that I think are very good. The title track and "When Death Calls", I think. But I never owned the album and never listened to the rest of it much. I actually know those two songs because I used to own an obscure live DVD with Tony Martin fronted Sabbath playing in Russia in murky VHS quality.

I have Eternal Idol on CD and it's a very good album. Not so keen on the last three Martin albums, although Anno Mundi is a great song (from Tyr).

Tony Martin Sabbath is like store brand Dio. Perfectly nice and I'll listen to it but I'd rather listen to Dio either Sabbath or solo! There's no reason why Tony Martin was a lost Sabbath singer. He simply wasn't good enough to be remembered.

According to Iommi, Headless Cross was poorly promoted by the label even though it did well on the charts. Been awhile since I went through the album but that's the story I heard.

Yeah whatever it wouldn't have sold no matter what the band did. It was just some Sabbath album by a band who were far past their last commercial leg.

Album is a little bit too much on the AOR side overall (having given it a new run through), but this song is pretty swell. Has a nice classic USPM build.

I think Tony Martin was a fine vocalist. What really went down the drain with the onset of the 90's was Iommi's ability to pen a solid song. Those two albums where Dio came back were super dull and the three last albums with Martin mostly also.
