Old school style, fresh execution, sick black metal

Fun stuff here. David Readman knows his way around a melody.

Killing Is My Business doesn't get enough love. It took early thrash to a next level that wasn't even logical. It's like AC/DC taken to some weird extreme and the savagery is off the charts. I mean come on the opener is legit hatred on Metallica and that **** is lit. And say what you want about Mustaine's vocals after this album but on this he was the perfect accompaniment to the off-the-rails dirtiness of the music. This was Megadeth at their most important and ****ed up.

And I think the reason it didn't inspire direct ripoffs was because bands couldn't hang with this.

"Rattlehead" also served to make pure speed metal irrelevant by perfecting it and ending the age of emerging American metal without hardcore punk influence, and in a weird way the cover of "These Boots" did as well with that oddball swagger.

Slayer did that better with Show No Mercy though tbh. Maybe not though cause Slayer kinda win more through being corny metal personified in the coolest way possible, but Megadeth had a dexterity and musicality that commands brutality through sheer intensity on their debut. The Big Four's debuts don't get enough love in general.

The title track of Killing Is My Business also deserves hella love. That rhythm guitar is the gnarliest and most direct metal riff ever but nobody understood it so they sucked.

I like the album, but it's one of my least favourite Megadeth albums. The songs I like the most are Looking Down the Cross and The Chosen Ones. The album catches some heat for its production, but I love the way it sounds, especially the drums and the bass. For me, So Far So Good... So What? is Killing Is My Business 2.0 and much better. Sometimes even more raw feeling (they were all coked off their asses when they made it).

Nah, So Far So Good is a solid ass record but it is 20x more polished than Killing Is My Business.
