I think it's that they're pretty much trying to elevate what is essentially blue collar guitar-bashing to an extent that Machine Head simply has no business trying to do. Slanderous still has a killer fuc
king riff and is proof they could of, at their best, hung with some of the better acts in groove metal. It's just when they try to add too much depth with things like the quieter passages in Now I Lay Thee Down where they almost sound like a nu-metal act that make me think less of them.
