I've always liked Sepultura, but I can't say that I've ever really loved them. I dig their early stuff, as in Morbid Visions, for being so ugly sounding, but they're certainly not the best early black metal band. And their late eighties stuff is good brutal thrash, but if I want that kind of thing I'd rather listen to Exhorder or Devastation. Chaos A.D. is pretty sweet, but I don't listen to it all that much. So I'd never really bothered listening to Roots. I sort of randomly decided to listen to it today, and I figured I wouldn't hate it. I mean I remember digging the title track back in high school. But even that song is boring the hell out of me right now. Maybe if I was a Sep fan back in the day and then heard this when it came out I would've been pissed off, but right now all I can summon up is indifference.

Welcome back, dude! I was afraid you'd flown the coop for good.

Edit: I was wondering if maybe I just wasn't in a metal mood today. I didn't care about Sepultura, then I didn't care about Earth Crisis (not metal but close enough). Then I put on Exhorder and it was all good. Amazing, amazing band. The problem with most groove metal is that the bands almost always forget to put some actual energy into the heavy riffing. Exhorder have no such problem.
