I'm a little over halfway through the new Nachtmystium album and am starting to form my first impressions on it. First impressions are good, I'm not sure if I like it as much as their last two Black Meddle albums, but the things I do like about the band (audible bass, good production, interesting guitar arrangements, etc.) are still here. This is a little more straight forward than their previous two albums and don't feature anywhere near as many blatent psychedelic moments, but they're still there, just more so in the background. The song I posted is probably the closest to their last two albums, which is where I started so that's why I may seem to be stuck on the issue. Basically it's a pretty happy marriage between their more experimental sounds of the Black Meddle albums and their more straight-forward 2006 album Instinct: Decay. |

Actually I think the lyrics are kinda sweet, like a mini romance novel. They remind me of this other little "love song": Alice Cooper -- "Feed My Frankenstein" Alice Cooper - Feed My Frankenstein - YouTube Quote:

I could imagine this being a love or hate album for many on here, the contrast between melodic proggy sections and Meshuggah type jagged riffs and vocals may be something that you like one element or the other but I love contrast in Metal a lot of times and this is quite simply awesome and I diddn't even realise that I will be seeing them next week! Have a tune:

If you're a bit tired of all the post-rock black metal, but still love black metal with a more experimental edge, try Dodheimsgard. They combine black metal with industrial in a way that is truly odd and a bit disturbing but still straightforward enough to get the head banging.

Nice blackened rocker from one of last year's gems.

Giving Agalloch a listen finally. I'm guessing I'm gonna have to give this a few listens before I can really develop an opinion, but it's peaceful and calming so far.
