Sounds like their older stuff; unlike the rest of this newest full length.

Yes, Mumakil and Brutal Truth do sound similar. I'm amused you actually listened to the muppet "Animal" playing grindcore. I didn't think anyone would. :)

"Sludgy" is a good adjective for the music. I decided that "I Killed My Family" is the EXACT sort of song most parents probably hope their teenage boys won't be listening to while holed up in their bedrooms. Could make one a little...n e r v o u s.

I tested out parts of nine songs by Brutal Truth, then switched to another band, Fall of Efrafa, that I prefer because their songs are more varied.

I learned that Fall of Efrafa is a post-metal band whose entire discography apparently is based on Watership Down, which I loved as a movie. I like how the music (at least this song) has a punk vibe due to the drumming that counters the monotony of the incessant growling:

Fall of Efrafa - "Pity the Weak"

And now I'm listening to one of their songs that starts out sounding more meditative and melodic before energizing itself then quieting down to include violin (didn't expect that). My favorite part of this long song is the heavy drumming that occurs at and after 6:22.

For the last year or so, I've been falling in love with the first wave of black metal. I think that if I ever started a band, they'd probably sound like Venom and Hellhammer and Bathory, just raw and scuzzy and noisy and without any pretensions. I have been foiled though, as this band has already done so. They only have one album that was released in 2007, and boy does it ****ing destroy. Just the sound of rock 'n' roll gone horribly wrong.

I've never been the biggest Darkthrone fan TBH. Give me Venom and Bathory over Darkthrone and Mayhem any day. So their newer ultra old school sound is actually my favorite incarnation of their music. I just love how they seem to be giving all their fans and the countless bands ripping them off the finger and have decided that the best way to show their superiority is to go from taking themselves completely seriously and making totally unlistenable music to not taking themselves seriously at all and making music that's actually catchy and (almost) accessible. Darkthrone - 1, Everyone Else - 0.

Eh? Do you know of Midnight?

I am listening to a band called Latitudes. They are considered a post-metal group. I just recently came across them this year. Most of their songs are instrumentals, which I am really getting into lately. They have been around since 2007 and have three albums out. One which came out July 2nd, which I am totally into.

I've seen you talk about them, but I don't believe I'd listened to them 'till now. Epic. :band:
