Part of me thinks it's because Words from the Exit Wound was a formative death metal album for me two decades ago when I was first getting into metal as a young teen and it happened to be one of the only Napalm Death albums I could find at FYE and so I bought it and listened to it countless times but it really is brilliant as a perfect midway point between grindcore and death metal and underground metal and well-produced ****. And after all these years it also shows itself to be one of the most perfect and underappreciated focal points of metal at its most immediate, brutal, and catchy. To an extent that this particular album is legitimately unique.

Words from the Exit Wound isn't a perfect extreme metal album in the sense of its accomplishments or even of its quality, but it's perfect in the sense that it captures a sound that I believe could have been perfect in a slightly different universe. But its violence is most definitely just shy of perfect.

You should check out New Tattoo. It was their turn of the millennium reunion with Vince Neil and while it doesn't have any of their best songs it's their trashiest album and one of the most gloriously tasteless rock albums ever made. I don't know how Nikki Sixx could have possibly written the title track with a straight face.

TFW I think of someone whose first year of truly getting into metal doesn't include this. Not a good feeling.

Not even a big Testament fan but this is definitely the most bombass post-implosion, pre-revival thrash metal song and ranks pretty high in the general metal rankings of all-time. The Gathering was a pretty crazy thrash album in general tbh with Chuck Billy as singer; Eric Peterson as rhythm guitarist; James Murphy of Death, Disincarnate, and Obituary lead guitarist fame; Steve Digiorgio of Sadus bassist wizardry; and Dave "You Know Who the **** He Is" Lombardo making the ultimate thrash super group.

Been listening to a lot of good metal lately. New KoRn album, Dillinger Escape Plan, Vein, Fear Factory, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Loathe, The Body.

And finally listened to Leng Tch'e by Naked City. I remember it being in one of the metal survivors on here way back. Thanks for whoever added that, rad album.
