Some Youtube punk guy who also reps 90s pop punk and Attack Attack got me interested in the concept of slam death metal as kind of death metal's version of Norwegian black metal and while it still sounds like **** I see his point and this album is kinda sorta awesome. It all sounds the same but it's nicely pummeling with the volume up to 11.
I also like this RYM reviewer's opening line on this album. Quote:

Abominable Putridity as far as I know come from a form of late 00s supposedly Russian slam death metal that mixes more technical brutal death metal with slam death metal to make the best out of both just like Katalepsy, and Katalepsy's Autopsychosis is pound for pound the most violent death metal album I've ever heard. Both of Abominable Putridity's albums I've heard are likewise ballcrushingly heavy as in actually being crushing enough to turn your balls into paste while having a thuggishness that makes you feel like you're being robbed at clubpoint.
But Katalepsy opt more for mile-a-minute brutal death metal with a slam influence, whereas Abominable Putridity are definitely a slam band with gurgly vocals who give brutal death metal a handjob while chugging and slamming along at midpace. First album for slam, second album for brutal I guess. Neither for class or intelligence. Both crush though. |
Katalepsy's Autopsychosis is awesome!

I don't know if I'll ever agree that the vocals need to sound like evil frogs or plumber field recordings but slam death metal definitely has some gems that make death metal way more fun than all that bland tech/brutal DM schlock.

Then listen to five minutes. The first song is five minutes and it's all the same anyway.
