That song was my jam senior year in HS. Groovy af and the lyrics are hilarious.

Tool have some of the heaviest music moments I've ever heard as well

Maynard's obnoxious as **** but ja I like em alright.

Malmsteen is absolute twaddle though.

Like usually when I try to listen to Tool, I appreciate their style but also find myself wishing that there was just something more to their songs, somehow.
I guess I especially find the guitar playing a bit too samey across the songs.
I don't think there's any way forward for me except just playing this as background music until it sticks.

The first Malmsteen album gets my vote. It's twaddle, but in a fun way.

Yeah, I get what you mean. I think they've got a good sound and do it really well, but they can get repetitive. I think it works for them, though I can see how that repetition would annoy some. The fanboys probably really damage other people's experience getting into them.

I get the sense that their music is supposed to be "hypnotic" or something, but it feels a little too mechanical for me in a way. Like Meshuggah. But unlike with Meshuggah, I do like several elements of Tool. They've got a cool sound and some songs that I quite like and I think Maynard is a good singer. I'm just not really clicking with them overall.

I feel like the first A Perfect Circle album fleshes Tool out into something more my style.

Somehow grew to be one of my favorite metal bands.

The Agonist - The Gates of Horn and Ivory

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdxEPOcuTF8

The Agonist - My Witness, Your Victim

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adsMMQvd9a8
So many good riffs in this song.

The Agonist - Dance Macabre

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1--pTLaVBc
Perfect! Love this one from the first second to the last. So many cool details in the drumming and such a well put together song progression. The riffs are so varied in this band as well. And full of color. Definitely reaches beyond the usual bag of tricks for similar bands.
