I listened to this at work today. Absolutely fantastic.

The best Uriah Heep album and one of the best 70's metal albums.

Why isn't this as massive for 80s metal nerds as Hellhammer and Bathory? I mean they were Mayhem before Mayhem. One of the band members killed his stepfather or stepmother with an ax cause he thought they were a robot. One of the rawest, noisiest, most garbage metal albums ever.

Listening to it right now.

My first thoughts in relation to why it's not more revered as an early, badass metal record are the punk element.

It's kinda weird, but in my experience, there seems to be incredibly little cross over between black metal/death metal and punk. Even if you can find music like this that show how these genres can work on some of the same levels.

I think this is too punk for typical underground metal geeks.

Bruh black metal came about because of bands who couldn't play their instruments crossing Motorhead with punk and hardcore. Black metal wouldn't exist without punk. Early Hellhammer, Bathory, and NME were almost punk bands playing metal.

Which is why it's weird that underground black metal fans don't usually pay any respect to or take any interest in punk. At least as far as the impression I've formed over the years goes.

Well Mayhem and Darkthrone are far enough removed from black metal's origins that it almost doesn't matter, but that scuzzy ****tiness is definitely derived from punk.

I think black metal fans should get into punk, and vice versa. Just makes more sense that way.
