Jinjer - Words of Wisdom
Great! Jinjer - Just Another Even better! Amaranthe - Maximise I'm gonna be humming that hook for a week straight at least. The Dark Element - The Ghost and the Reaper Like the catchiest Nightwish songs, but without the boring symphonic stuff. This whole album is basically power metal. Arch Enemy - The Eagle Flies Alone Best Arch Enemy album, pretty much. They really did improve with Alyssa on board. |

Doomsday Machine is the best Arch Enemy album, from when they actually were a death metal band. Not every band can have such a heavy and catchy groove while having a stark mechanical atmosphere: Plus Asmodina, the band Gossow was in prior to Arch Enemy, is better than most of Arch Enemy's albums. Pure raw and crushing classic death metal: |

But having listened to those two Alyssa albums a lot over the last few years, they've grown on me a lot. Basically, I think the songs are more memorable, the production better and that Alyssa is a more versatile and expressive vocalist than Angela. I still think Wages of Sin and Khaos Legions are good albums, but I listen to the two newest albums far more these days. EDIT: Although it has to be said that that bendy main riff in My Apocalypse is really cool. |

To each their own though, I just don't get the appeal. It just sounds too watered down and not very metal. |

And I think the two new albums sound much like the ones with Angela, but they come out nicer in terms of the bass and drum sounds on my stereo. Seems more balanced and warm sounding to my ears. I probably don't like Arch Enemy for the same things. I find overly "brutal" bands boring. You can only go with that mood for so long before it all blends together. They sound nothing like Doomsday Machine at least, and that's really the only Arch Enemy album that I LOVE. They have more good albums, but Doomsday Machine has such a unique sound that I've honestly never heard quite replicated. I think it's something to do with the atmosphere it has.

Back in the day, It tended to collect dust while I was listening to a few of their other Angela fronted albums instead. I can name good songs from it though. The only AE album with Angela that I don't like at all is Rise of the Tyrant. |
