Phobos is their best album to come out after the Outer Limits

I prefer the self-titled personally.

Why wouldn't they write music that they care about? Because they could instead write music that could pay their mortgage. It's pretty dumb to think that a band a decade into their career might not write a song they thought would be a secure financial bet. People want to eat food after all.
But it doesn't have to be either/or. If I had a band and someone asked me to write a song for a mainstream movie, I'd go for something catchy, but I'd still write something that I thought sounded really good. It's just another musical direction.

These days especially, there's just not a lot of money to be made from music, so any musician would be a fool not to write something that he/she feels is really good from a personal perspective. The early 90's were a different time, I know that.

But either way, I don't like that dichotomy that either you're a real artist or you're a sellout. Even producers like Max Martin who write radio hits for the big pop stars must put some heart into at least some of those tracks. They're still artists making music, using their own sensibilities.

I don't like that dichotomy either but that was clearly a paycheck song and not one that felt like it had much of Mustaine's heart in it. Honestly if you're going to write a song to put on a soundtrack (that's probably not going to set the world on fire anyway) and not an album why are you going to waste your best ideas? Just give them good enough for government work with a good chorus and get back to your real job.

Some underrated Friedman work on this thing. Not super consistent nor amazingly produced, but still not bad for '83. Great cover too.
