Heartwork doesn't get enough love on this site. I love how the album isn't restrained by the normal rules of death metal, but it's still brutal as **** (and catchy as a....really catchy thing). At times it almost feels like a rock album, but a rock album that could spark a wicked mosh pit.

Someone has a hardon for Mr. Amott, :P
Really, though, I don't care for At the Gates. Unlike Heartwork, the rhythms don't seem very captivating, and - frankly - the fuzzy Swedish death metal production sound annoys me to no end. From the new Revenge album "Scum.Collapse.Eradication"; I think it's neat how both Revenge & Black Witchery seem to be incorporating more grindcore elements into their songs. The music is becoming more dissonant, and textures are becoming, if they haven't already, more important than melody and harmony. |
I only like ATG's first album. Oh, and the Grotesque stuff.
