I think it feels very raw. In any case, you gotta agree on the opening track at least.

Into the Lungs of Hell sounds super different between the original album and the 2004 remaster/remix. The reason being that the original was so bungled in the recording and mixing stage that the guitars drop in and out all the time.
I always thought it was supposed to sound that chaotic, but it was actually a mistake. The 2004 remix fixes that, but doesn't sound nearly as interesting. That one track literally has totally, unintentionally ****ed up sound, but for the better.

I really hate that the 2004 versions of all albums up to and including Risk are the ones you will find on Spotify. They're often worse, but never better than the originals. Travesty. Everyone who wants to listen to Megadeth should be vary of what versions of the albums they listen to.

They're way more unhinged on Killing Is My Business though, plus the razor edge production.

You're probably right in most ways, but there are aspects of So Far So Good that feel way less controlled than the two albums that surround it. In any case, it's a top 3 Megadeth album for me personally.

Exactly. The music on the debut feels absolutely frantic and skittery.

Nothing beats those first three Megadeth albums, all the rawness and attitude is unmatched. I absolutely love the bass sound, the debut in particular. The Skull Beneath the Skin always gets me thrashing. Absolute blast to play some of those riffs on bass too.

This guy gets it even if he's snubbing Rust in Peace.

Best 5 Megadeth albums according to me:

1. Cryptic Writings
2. So Far So Good
3. Countdown to Extinction
4. a tie between The World Needs a Hero and The System Has Failed.
5. Rust in Peace (no bad songs, but I only outright love 4 of them (Holy Wars, Lucretia, Tornado of Souls, Poison Was The Cure))

Not exactly reinventing the wheel here, but...

2. Rust in Peace
3. Countdown to Extinction
4. Peace Sells
5. So Far, So Good, So What

1. Risk
2. United Abominations
3. Youthanasia
4. The System Has Failed
5. The World Needs a Hero
