This song has some good riffs, but the singer sounds kinda whiny. |
That's A7X or whatever their abbreviation is in a nutshell. They got a guitarist with some tasty riffs but their singer needs to get shot in the head. He was a screamy guy, then he had vocal problems needing surgery that made him have to be a singy guy, and I guess the band felt too guilty to tell him he had to get the **** out. I don't even know how good a screamer he was cause I've never cared to listen to their early ****, but he had to have been a better screamer or I'd like to think they would never have hired him in the first place.

You know I've been so focused on the vocals on this album, that I failed to recognize the marvel that is Gene Hoglan playing the drums.

Really underrated albums by these guys. They still churn out the weird thrash riffs here.
|
At least 95% of crossover thrash can not **** with Ringworm. They're also the best modern thrash band by a good amount and they're not even a thrash band. Suck it, metal.

Better than Atheist.

Apparently this band is "blackened hardcore" and they definitely bring to mind Coffinworm without the doom influence, but still nicely sludgy. I don't know what they've released beyond this EP, but it's some sick ****.

Bay Area + Teutonic thrash worship.

It helps that this was one of maybe the first five death metal albums I ever heard, and was one of the few albums I actually owned for years, so it's imprinted on my DNA at this point, but I still say it's a lost gem of not only Napalm Death but of death metal in general. Almost all of the grind is gone, but the riffs are amazing and the street level punk approach to professionally played death metal is actually pretty unique to Napalm Death, so even if it's a standard ND album it still stands out like a sore thumb in the genre. It's just so immediate, catchy, and slams you hard in the face. Not all of the songs are gold, but much of them are and the standouts are some of the best death metal songs ever recorded.

No matter how much I've overlistened to this album it is still absolutely the most explosive metalcore album of all-time.
