I'm kinda pissed at myself that I played this album over and over and over again for like a year until it lost part its impact, but I still come back to it a lot for short bursts. Here's hoping that in ten years I won't have abandoned it and will have reconciled my overplaying it to reach a new level of metalcore nirvana. "From Heaven We Fall" is still one of the sickest openers of any album ever though.

As much as I've liked Suffocation over the years, my newfound love of Cryptopsy has kind of made me see them as their cool but inferior little brother. It's an unfair comparison, and it hasn't affected as much my appreciation for other brutal death metal bands, but a long time ago I associated both bands with being the two leading lights of the genre, so one leaping so far ahead of the other in my ears has kind of tainted the other. It also doesn't help that I've always had issues with Pierced from Within's too clean, weak production, and while Effigy of the Forgotten is raw and brutal as ****, it's also kind of obsolete when None So Vile exists. I don't know, but when I listen to Suffocation these days it just makes me want to listen to Cryptopsy.

They both pale in comparison to Gorguts' trippy madness though.

Nah. I can respect Gorguts' mad ****, but Cryptopsy perfected death metal riffs in a way that is awe inspiring. More traditional, yes, but also stupefying.

They are awesome, but Reverend Bizarre are the gods of trad doom, no matter how ironic they are.

TFW you're listening to Cryptopsy and then go to smoke a cigarette and thought you paused it, but then you come back and hear the sickest **** coming out of your headphones lying on your chair and you're like, "**** yeah".

Love at first listen? You've been talking for weeks how long it took you to appreciate it.
