Interview with Gene Hoglan: When Symbolic came out, it was vilified by all death metallers! - Agoraphobicnews

He mentioned it in this interview.

We are in the process of writing it. My schedule is pretty crazy, so trying to devote as much time as I would love to to writing it has been a challenge. But we're in the process of writing it. And there's no timeline to when it's gonna be completed. And I appreciate everybody's patience. I can only imagine people [going], "Where's that new Dark Angel [album] you promised a few years back?" But we're trying to work on it. I'm gonna make it ****ing the most ball-crushing record possible.

This and "Mob Justice" are a pretty phenomenal way to open an album.

Also lol low-budget 80s music videos

Speaking of awesome thrash openers, this is my favorite, and my second favorite thrash song. The singer greatly irritated younger me, but now I think he's great.

After more relistens, I think I would agree, it is high up there... if there is one better, I have not found it yet.,

The riffs on this album are just amazing. I need to find more Blackened Death Metal albums, my mission for 2018, is to discover and explore that substyle.

Honestly I get the feeling that either Necrophobic or Dissection cribbed from the other. They both have kind of similar styles, even if one is solidly Swedish DM and the other is solidly black metal. They both formed in 89 and released their debuts in 93 so I have no idea which influenced which, but there's no way one didn't get ideas from the other.
