GWAR remain an amazing band; I know many people treat them as a joke, but I think they've great musical value. They're fun, they've variation in sounds throughout their discography, but it's not scatter shot.

The production on this song is a bit weird, though. The drums are pushed back and the bass is minimal.... I guess the 80s thrash influence went beyond the song writing to the production, eh?

They're former art students who figured out how to make music simultaneously fun and artsy. I think they were earning their BFAs in Sculpture when they decided to form a band. No doubt higher ed's where they learned to make those costumes. Not bad musicians either but I think they started the joke themselves, boy.

Listening to my favorite Slayer song of all-time.

"Spill the Blood" is definitely the best song on that album. Tom's voice just sounds so sadistic on that song, and the way they just went for it on the melody of that song was brilliant. It added such great atmosphere to the end of that album. But either "At Dawn They Sleep" or "Angel of Death" would be my fav Slayer track.

Amazing EP, highly recommended for anyone who likes their metal crusty with a side of buzzsaw

^^^Good stuff.
Have you checked out my Iskra thread?? Their not death/thrash like this but they also do a great job of mixing punk (crust/grind) with metal, though it’s more bm in this case..

Legion of Doom's debut "Kingdom of Endless Darkness".
Greek bm, but nothing like their peers in Rotting Christ and Varathron, more Scandinavian influenced in sound..
