Woods of Desolation - Torn Beyond Reason

As far as "atmospheric black metal" goes, this is tops. Really good stuff. Were I to have the adequate anatomy, I'd have a total boner for this band.

Gothic Stone/Well Of Souls by Candlemass.

One day, when I off myself, this'll be the song I play. :yeah:

What a coincidence.

When I heard that Dez had started another band, I checked them out, halfway expecting another Coal Chamber. I was completely wrong, its nothing like Coal Chamber. I think his vocals are better in Devildriver, and their guitarists are killer. Overall, better band, better shows, better albums.

I remember seeing DevilDriver open for Opeth on the Damnation tour, and Dez was so drunk he couldn't even remember the name of the band he was opening for. Between songs he would look at the crowd and go "hope you are having a good time! get ready for...... ....... ..O.......O......Opeth!"

I really can't understand this love for Opeth - they've never written a decent song in their entire career; at best, they've songs which are entirely soft/melodic, which gets approval because the majority of people who listen to these songs listen mostly to metal, meaning their largely ignorant of what quality non-metal sounds like.

As far as the schtick they built their career on, the idiotic death metal/acoustic dynamic rape... it's godawful, although I'm glad to see that it's novelty is wearing thin as 'core bands, who make use of the same dynamic rape, are taking this idiocy to its logical conclusion.

Devil Driver may be bad, but at least it's fun; Opeth try to be pretentious, and fail.

 That means that Dez is a ****ing hypocrite. I read an interview with him a few years ago where he said that he didn't drink except for a glass of wine after every show.

Though he went downhill with "Heaven In Flames" I love all of Judas Iscariot's earlier albums (not terribly original stuff but done very well).
I've been playing "Thy Dying Light" and "Distant In Solitary Night" quite a bit just lately, definitely some of the better USBM out there at this time..

Sorry, can't post vids yet but it's well worth looking into if you like Burzum/Darkthrone worship done right.

This was, what 2004 or 2005..... so could have changed since then. But at this time, he sure as hell had more than a glass of wine. I had a friend who met him after the show the night before and said he was wasted at that one too.
