This is probably the best proto-death/early extreme metal release. It's fast, raw, primal and insanely evil. And what else do you need, ho?

Don't get me wrong, that's a sweet album, but no. What are the criteria btw? No death thrash post-Scream Bloody Gore? No 1st wave black metal (I'm assuming 1st wave is cool)? No straight up thrash?
Oh, and this has made me revisit Necrovore's demo, Divus de Mortuus. ****in' sweet and it's a crying shame they never got an LP, or even EP or a second demo. It's rare, even at the time, to find a band so far along the road to death metal that sounds that ****ing raw and noisy.

1983-1985 extreme metal (including thrash metal, proto-death and proto-black metal).

Gotta go with the hella easy answer and say Hell Awaits. There's a reason it's an easy answer.

And it never ceases to amaze me just how ****ing savage this album is. Thrash personified and perfected.

Suffocation worship done right (and depending on the album, better):
Love the wounded animal howl he does towards the beginning. Unsettling...

I love this "album" (really a compilation). Somewhat recent discovery - gets a lot of play.
