I figured out what it is from a compositional standpoint, that I like about the riffs that I like. I tried writing riffs that I like, and I unintentionally ended up with an eerily similar riff to this. I guess this song is just part of my DNA at this point.

People who claim that speed-metal never existed as a subgenre of heavy-metal probably haven't heard these classics.

But it didn't really. It was just proto-thrash, and ceased to exist once thrash finally existed. Really it and thrash was just the American response to the NWOBHM.
