Working my way through the A's on my phone this morning.

My favorite description of Arghoslent is still one found in a MA review: Pirates of the Caribbean meets the KKK

currently on Augury

Although I imagine I'll be coming back to this thread for some more recommendations. Rorschach sounded interesting. Will need to listen a bit longer.

Yeah, pretty much them, Katalepsy, and one Devourment record (the second one) are the only things I found that I actually cared about. It wasn't long before I moved on to better death metal.

Rorschach are definitely pretty awesome.

To all you ****bags who act like Gorguts didn't have two awesome albums before Obscura: stop it.

Early Gorguts is great, just doesn't reach the level of Obscura or From Wisdom to Hate.

For anyone out there that collects vinyl, is it as impossible to find Thin Lizzy records as it has been for me? I live in an area with 3 fairly large record stores, and all I've been about to find between them over the last 9 months or so is one copy of Jailbreak and 1.5 copies of Live and Dangerous. I'd love to get a large chuck of their discography, and their final album Thunder and Lightning has been one of my vinyl white whales. But I've been **** out of luck with that.

Maybe it's a US thing. Or maybe it's because Thin Lizzy are so ****ing good that their used records rarely end up available.

Obscura is one of the few experimental metal albums that goes above my head that I don't **** on for being pretentious, but I still can only listen to it for so long. First two Gorguts albums I can actually rock out to though.

I can rock out to this. I'm pretty far down the rabbit hole though so it actually sounds really coherent to me compared to when I first started listening to them.

These dudes sound like a more tech thrash version of Darkness Descends Dark Angel. Some sick riffs, sick vox, and the production is even decent enough that I don't have a problem with it (my one huge gripe with Darkness Descends). Will definitely be coming back to this many times in the coming days.

It's not often I immediately hit Replay on an album I've just heard for the first time, but god damn is this thing insanely good. It feels like the perfect distillation of everything that is thrash: the raw anti-singing, the headsdown buzzsaw riffing racing itself to the finish, the jaw droppingly badass riffs to give texture to the assault, the constant but tasteful tempo shifts to stave off monotony, the bat**** solos to make everything wild, and the stiff neck from nearly 50 minutes of nonstop headbanging. After a decade and a half it can be easy to forget what it's like to be excited by a new thrash band, but it feels amazing.
