This song probably shows just how out of date a lot of my music tastes are Krokus were certainly listening to too much Led Zeppelin on this album, but they knew how to match Led Zep for excess, excessive guitar and face-pulling. They even have some kids invading the stage.

This is one of the very few deathcore bands that I can still stand from back when I was giving deathcore a chance. Don't get it twisted, this is definitely death metal for emo kids, but these guys actually write (well, wrote) songs rather than just excuses for breakdowns. Their songs have actual variety and a keen sense of melody. Good **** if you're not just out to **** on anything that smells like Despised Icon.

It's a shame I only found out about Woods of Ypres because of David Gold's death. After reading some of his lyrics, it was like he was writing his own epitaph. Eerie to say the least, but epic doom nonetheless

wow, i didn't even hear about David Gold til you just said that. Sad news, Woods of Ypres were great. Kinda like Canada's answer to Agalloch.

RIP Mr. Gold.

Really digging Meshuggah these days after taking a couple of years to get what they are really about. No solos or songs that outstay their welcome just 4 or 5 minutes blasts of jagged riffs and rhythms.

Controlled fury

That album is single handedly responsible for the djent explosion of the past few years. Whether or not that is a good thing or a bad thing, only time will tell. I don't think the sound has quite reached the derivative status of other strands of trendy metal just yet.

Gotta take a break from all the death metal, so I'm gonna catch up on my Mastodon, maybe some Himsa and 36 Crazyfists.
