Groove metal sucks...(BTW, Tankard is not groove metal)
If that was directed at me for posting Meshuggah, know that I despise groove metal, I despise Meshuggah, and I despise Djent. That song has a chromatic, angular riff and those don't grow on trees.

It honestly kind of drives me crazy that I don't like Darkness Descends more than I do. I keep coming back to it for it's malevolent atmosphere, insane energy, and wall of chainsaw guitar, but I wish they'd had just a bit clearer production. I don't want the production to be clean, or even traditional for raw, ugly thrash, as that would kill at least some of its hideous evilness, but when they're going full blast I can't even fully make out the guitar riffs and it hurts my ability to really appreciate what's going on.
And yet I keep coming back for more, sure that one day all will fall into place and the album will have its proper effect on me. But the title track is totally as evil sounding as any Slayer song.
The guitars sound super compressed and thin, and when Hoglan is playing full-speed everything blurs together; but DD is less about the riffs and more about the incredibly speedy, up and down rhythms of that album. It's not a perfect album but the approach to rhythm on that album is highly unique.

But more attention should be paid to this Kurt Ballou produced slab of Gaza-esque sludgeilated dark mathcore album by Cult Leader, who surely will continue to rise in the ranks of all these sludge type core bands everywhere. https://cultleadermusic.bandcamp.com...lightless-walk it at least made a badass statement

If you look up "savage" in a dictionary and you don't see a picture of Ringworm then you should probably burn it. Mega-old school metalcore from a band still eviscerating poseurs in 2007.
