^ If that was in response to me then you're delusional. That trebly ass **** is not even in the same ballpark of heaviness as Burn My Eyes.

But I did just prove myself wrong.

Demolition Hammer are heavier song/music wise IMO.

Machine Head/a whole lotta new thrash has super heavy sounding production, very deep and thick and stuff. I'm not disagreeing about their heaviness because their music is still also quite heavy. I just think production plays a big role.

Also, to me groove metal is a pretty ambiguous term, I can't say it sucks when there's Overkill and Exhorder and Sepultura around. I feel like you can tack that term onto a huge amount of thrash

True. I thought about them, and considered that angle, but it's kinda hard to compare the two in minute detail with such different styles of production. I guess Demolition Hammer's drummer might very well make the difference. Riff-wise though I'd be hardpressed to put one over the other.

It honestly kind of drives me crazy that I don't like Darkness Descends more than I do. I keep coming back to it for it's malevolent atmosphere, insane energy, and wall of chainsaw guitar, but I wish they'd had just a bit clearer production. I don't want the production to be clean, or even traditional for raw, ugly thrash, as that would kill at least some of its hideous evilness, but when they're going full blast I can't even fully make out the guitar riffs and it hurts my ability to really appreciate what's going on.

And yet I keep coming back for more, sure that one day all will fall into place and the album will have its proper effect on me. But the title track is totally as evil sounding as any Slayer song.

This might just end up cracking my top 10 of the year. It's like, idunno, blackgaze meets atmo-sludge meets acoustic ballads? Not to mention this girl can totally hang in the vocal department. Some nasty shrieks but also a beautiful singing voice for the aforementioned acoustic cuts. Basically just listen to it.

That kinda reminds me of a better Cradle of Filth. They have that melodic black metal sound that's not really black metal when you listen closer, just some indefinable form of extreme metal with black metal aesthetics. The chick's screams are definitely influenced by Dani Filth as well.

Yeah, I can see that. I think it's some hardcore hipster bait as I've seen people who wouldn't know a Mayhem song from an Emperor song out here repping it. I still dig it big time though, just the right amount of brutality mixed in lightly with some really pretty vocals and guitar work.

You should play them some CoF and see if they take the bait.

Specially for Batwhore.

Found a black/death/thrash/weird prog hybrid you might like Batty. They are from Chicago and sound like absolutely nobody else.
