I'd love to get a large chuck of their discography, and their final album Thunder and Lightning has been one of my vinyl white whales. But I've been **** out of luck with that.

Maybe it's a US thing. Or maybe it's because Thin Lizzy are so ****ing good that their used records rarely end up available.

Discogs, man! https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?master_id=52874&ev=mb
Also, how do you get 1.5 albums? One of the records missing??

I can rock out to this. I'm pretty far down the rabbit hole though so it actually sounds really coherent to me compared to when I first started listening to them.

These dudes sound like a more tech thrash version of Darkness Descends Dark Angel. Some sick riffs, sick vox, and the production is even decent enough that I don't have a problem with it (my one huge gripe with Darkness Descends). Will definitely be coming back to this many times in the coming days.

It's not often I immediately hit Replay on an album I've just heard for the first time, but god damn is this thing insanely good. It feels like the perfect distillation of everything that is thrash: the raw anti-singing, the headsdown buzzsaw riffing racing itself to the finish, the jaw droppingly badass riffs to give texture to the assault, the constant but tasteful tempo shifts to stave off monotony, the bat**** solos to make everything wild, and the stiff neck from nearly 50 minutes of nonstop headbanging. After a decade and a half it can be easy to forget what it's like to be excited by a new thrash band, but it feels amazing.

A little guitar-driven Canadian metal on this windy Friday afternoon:

If you're not familiar with this band start with either Hunter/Killer (11:39) or Mute Requiem (43:12).

And I tried for so long and so hard to love Obscura. Gotta back TheBatlord here, the more straightforward The Erosion of Sanity has stood the test of time for me. I don't usually like to be made to feel uncomfortable by music. When I do it's super drunk doom time (Khanate, Otesanek, etc.). Or just Portal. Seeeeeeepiaaaaaa (how I imagine one should say the album name)

I generally don't care about lyrics but I got curious about Death's "Living Monstrosity" and I think it's actually got pretty clever lyrics. It's not gory but it still uses the aggression, malevolence, and grotesque imagery of death metal to parody the attitudes of many toward people with drug addiction. Death ****ing rule.

Quote:
The guilty one, innocent she now cries
A life of hell, better off to die
Born without eyes, hands, and half a brain
Being born addicted to cocaine

Living monstrosity
A freak for life they'll always be
Never knowing love or hate
Only pain the drug creates

Some say she's naive, she's a stupid bitch
Some say to forgive, guilty she should die

I guess you could call this power thrash, but it's more like a power metal band playing straight tech thrash. It's got all the aggression of thrash, but with the melodicism of power metal mostly intact, and a power metal vocalist who can somehow do both at the same time. I'm not sure just how many bands have been able to toe this line so effectively and seamlessly. It's a shame American power metal never really survived grunge. Or survived thrash for that matter.
