I've tried to get into these guys for quite some time now, but the usage of clean vocals always killed the total chaos they manage to stir up. Luckily they don't use them that much, and the more I listen to their stuff the less I tend to care about it.

I'll check it out. The cleans aren't really bugging me much anymore just because the music itself kicks so much ass. Still not sure why they feel the need for it though.

Not entirely sure what you'd call Samael by this point in their careers. Some kind of black metal parallel to melodic death metal spliced together with electronic (don't call it industrial) moments that create something that kicks way more ass than melodic death metal while adopting a satisfying gothic atmosphere. At times it actually bears a very passing resemblance to a black metal Rammstein, but without the monotonous, boring, two-dimensional instrumentation or Pitchshifter thievery.
If that doesn't sound like the best endorsement then feel to go **** yourself, cause this is amazing.

lol I just can't listen to much metal with clean vocals. I'm getting more and more accustomed to their usage of them though. I went back and listened to the album Bat recommended but it wasn't as enjoyable as their newer stuff, for me at least.

Holy ****, Samael are the best black metal band everybody knows about but nobody really listens to. They're more known for their mid-period "industrial black metal" phase, and with good reason, cause those albums are ****ing sick; but their first two albums are almost entirely overlooked. Albums which seem to be the missing link between Celtic Frost and Norwegian black metal, especially with their first being released two years before A Blaze in the Northern Sky or Burzum's debut.
I'm still not done with their first album, Worship Him, but I've heard black metal that is one step removed from Norway and Celtic Frost worship so hideous and brutal that if it could just as easily be called death doom. So far it's musically more Celtic Frost than Darkthrone, but the aesthetics are definitely more the latter (and throw in a bit of death thrash while you're at it). Samael deserves some long overdue dick sucking. This is blackened ****ing death doom right here \/
