OMFG this song has the most badass breakdowns. I love how this album is so much closer to grimy ass hardcore punk than so many of their peers.

Hitting up some more progressive metal and I just listened to possibly the greatest album that has ever existed.
Known about that for a while but never listened. It was like hearing music for the first time. omg |

I think I just found a symphonic black metal album to get excited about. And throw in some industrial just to make it weirder.

I love how this goes from balls out rockin' metal to obtuse dissonance at the drop of a dime, and boy does this drop some dimes. Accessibility often gets left far behind when black metal starts experimenting, but Satyricon always bring the "fun".

Norwegian black metal is the 70s punk of metal I suppose: bands made up of weirdos who rejected the stale music of their time and wanted to get back to the roots of the genre. Some bands just stayed there and never evolved, and then you had the mavericks who were more experimental than pretty much any other genre of metal.
Like, this was from a black metal band's second album, and it's pretty ****ing sweet, even if I'd never know that Manes was a black/former black metal band if I didn't already know. I had to go to RYM to figure out what the hell this is supposed to be, and I guess it's some kind of trip hop avant garde metal.

Don't yet know whether Stryper are good for more than a few tracks here and there, but the tracks I do know are good are ****ing sickass 80s metal.
