Of course they can, I was just referring that German thrash is different to the North American version. Its known as Teutonic Thrash and Kreator along with Destruction and Sodom are known as the big three of that movement. Only the early stuff is really thrash, as the more middle period takes on industrial and gothic metal. They along with Celtic Frost and Sepultura etc were big influences on the then future death metal genre. Singer Mille Petrozza is a great extreme metal vocalist. I think what Kreator at times lack in quality, they really make up for in agression and sheer energy.

guess I should check out Sodom and Destruction then

best places to start?

and yeah, I'm not too fond of American thrash, besides Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer, and Sacred Reich

heck, I can't stand Anthrax (besides Sound of White Noise, which isn't even thrash anyway)

Most of the late 1980s releases are probably the best place to start, quality wise though its not as good as the North American bands but its different. Kreator and Sodom are better than Destruction quality wise and the Kreator albums were produced by Scott Burns who has produced most of the best extreme metal acts at one time or another.

Destruction Eternal Devastation, Release From Agony, Cracked Brain and one of their later albums is probably their best The Least Successful Human Cannonball

Kreator Pleasure to Kill, Terrible Certainty, Extreme Aggression and Coma of Souls also Outcast is a great later album.

Sodom Persecution Mania, Agent Orange , Better of Dead and Tapping the Vein

For the record, German Power Metal bands are better than their thrash counterparts.;)

Forgot "The Antichrist" for Destruction.

But I agree with the first choices from each being their best works.

Get those 3 first:

Sodom - Persecution Mania
Kreator - Pleasure to Kill
Destruction - Eternal Devastation

those 3 are worth getting.

Howard the Duck 02-09-2012 12:01 AM

^^i d/l'd Sodom's Agent Orange, Kreator's Extreme Aggression and Destruction's Eternal Devastation

right now, i'm listening to:-
