Anyone listen to Killing Joke? Not sure how I missed these guys. They're good. Plenty of bands I really love apparently list this band as a big influence on them. I vaguely recall the bands name in linear notes of albums I have...but, I guess it never dawned on me it was a band somehow? 2015, and they now have fifteen studio albums. I have a lot to catch up on. Apparently the band says they're not a Punk band. But you definitely hear it in the music. This song I am going to post is reminiscent of The Cure I feel, and you can hear traces of Punk in it too. Catchy track, a good track. Had it on repeat a few times at work last night.

Killing Joke are one of the greatest bands of all-time.

The guys certainly have a lot of personality or presence with their music. I really dig all they have going on, I mean so far I don't dislike any song from any record I have heard as of recently. I still need to give the new album a full listen to. The new record alone is better than a large portion of new records from bands I like that have put out a record this year, and honestly that has left me a little baffled at how that happened that way. I don't have what I call 'perfect musical taste' or anything, but I do feel that I know good music. Killing Joke comes along though and sort of makes me question why I listen to some of the bands that I do presently, they put out these 'career defining records' you know, but then Killing Joke puts out Pylon, almost like a slap to the face of the popular bands topping charts right now, sort of to say that these younger bands still got plenty to learn about what goes in to making a great record. I'd go as far as to say even, those bands are sub-par compared to Killing Joke, and I'd notch a lot of bands I listen to as sub-par after hearing Killing Joke.

I won't be cleaning out my music library or anything though. But these shortcomings from bands I like currently will just be a lot more noticeable.

There's hope for you.

Your eyes would likely pop out of your skull in disbelief that I actually got a damn clue as to what good music sounds like. I got a lot of that bullsh*t in my music library, but it's there for noise, I got plenty that's much more suited to my desire for music to get immersed in.

The first time I heard them was this compilation:

Their first 4 singles, and a demo.

This is still a classic song from the 80s as well.

It's a toss-up between this one and Legion for my favorite Deicide album, but this one has so many damn great songs from Oblivious to Evil, Sacrificial Suicide, Mephistopheles, Dead by Dawn...the whole album just rips:

Alright, so for the past two hours, I've been listening to nothing but old school powerviolence (Despise You, Man Is the Bastard, Crossed Out, etc) and now, for some "variety", I'm listening to grindcore. That's not right.

But this is right. This is very right.

Legion for me by a hair. But I have sentimental attachments to it, as it was my first Death Metal album. It just seems much darker.
