They're all extremely close, besides crust punk really, which I still consider metal (with it's thrash metal sound, harsh vocals, and often times even epicness). Powerviolence is more in the way of metal than thrashcore. The latter is often an all out speed assault, usually not getting any slower than the hardcore punk style breakdowns. Powerviolence takes all the extremes of hardcore punk and makes them more extreme, when punk goes fast, PV goes super fast, when punk breaks down, PV sludgifies to the pace of a snail. Grindcore is just more metal than all that. Even "non-deathgrind" grindcore has exponentially more metal than powerviolence.

Early grind is pretty hit-or-miss with me, but these dudes are just so much fun. And being from Japan, their grasp of English is hilariously awful. The name of this album is actually Don't Be Swindle.

There simply isn't a dull moment in this song. The first minute is the best part. It starts in this weird alternative-like riff, then all of a sudden it sounds like thrash, then the melody is quickly abandoned and then around the minute-mark it goes full death metal.

Nordland II might just be Bathory's most epic album ever. Quorthon just knows how to make all of Scandinavia shake with his riffs.

Holy **** is this an amazing album. Grind shouldn't have been this intense in the eighties.
