Actually that was a chainsaw. The funny thing is that I kinda still agreed with you.

Gorerotted with a new name and without all the goofiness. I loved Gorerotted, but now they just ****ing destroy on a world class level.

If I hadn't already known what it was from reading a review of the album years ago, I might not have known what it was either. So don't beat yourself up. ;)

Old school all the way even though it's only a year old. Good riffs, drum patterns and the classic acoustic breakdown. What more do u want? Oh I forgot, generic vocals, groovy riffs and no originality :(

The Batlord 11-04-2011 10:18 AM

I was just listening to the new Trivium in hopes that they had further dropped the melodic metalcore bull**** and gone further down the road to becoming a speed metal band. Alas, they have gone back to their Ascendancy damned ways. So I'm listening to Obscura to get the taste of fail out of my mouth.

almauro 11-04-2011 04:57 PM

I would always scratch my head when I heard people refer to black metal as warm, organic and emotional...until I heard "Autumn Aurora". The darn thing is freeking ethereal, which prior was only a feeling elicited in me by a great Brian Wilson song. This one's a little more aggressive, but it does have it's moments.

The Batlord 11-05-2011 09:29 AM

Ihsahn is the guitarist/vocalist from Emperor. I actually find this more engrossing than much of Emperor's stuff. Of course I'm not the biggest Emperor fan anyway, but this is pretty sweet. It's black metallish but without the black metal production, so it has an interesting feel to it.

The Batlord 11-08-2011 12:06 PM

God, how have I never listened to this band until now. They combine black metal and thrash in such a way that leaves the head unable to cease banging. ****in' A!

hip hop bunny hop 11-08-2011 12:56 PM

^^^ that's actually some pretty good black metal Batlord. I hadn't heard them before, but I'm pleasantly surprised.

I'm not so sure about Ildjarn.

This is probably Ildjarn's most palatable album. Really similar to Bathory's s/t; punk beats, simple riffs, & distorted vocals. The only real difference is Ildjarn sometimes makes use of harmony. Still, it is a musical progression of a style that Quorthorn abandoned in favor of more complex arrangements.

jackhammer 11-08-2011 05:20 PM

Just found these guys (even if the album is a few years old), the majority of the album sounds like early Sepultura but that isn't a bad thing in my eyes. This track takes a while to pick up but loving that raw production that puts the emphasis back onto Guitars and Drums which is what got me into Metal in the first place. United Nations by Ektomorf from the album Instinct:

Symphony of Grief
I had never heard of these guys before but apparently they're from my adoptive home city (active long before I lived here though). Pretty decent death/doom kind of stuff if you ask me. The rough production adds quite a bit of atmosphere too.

almauro 11-08-2011 08:51 PM

I know this is silly, but it's also silly fast USBM. Absu's secret weapon is the "Proscriptor" who can some how play drums blindingly fast and screech at the same time.

Howard the Duck 11-08-2011 11:46 PM

extremely brutal death metal from Florida:-

The Batlord 11-09-2011 09:20 AM

First time listening to Septic Flesh, and I am pleasantly surprised. Death metal that makes use of synths without sounding cheesy. Cool.

Metal Connoisseur 11-09-2011 02:23 PM

Norwegian Doom, interesting stuff

almauro 11-10-2011 08:06 PM

When I tire of listening to death and black metal posers, I usually listen to bands like XTC or the Decemberists, but on this occasion I went with the truly harrowing stuff...

Howard the Duck 11-10-2011 08:16 PM

whilst i don't like this cover much, i love Mental Vortex

Sneer 11-10-2011 08:42 PM

Fucking ace.

Megadeth Thirteen Deadly Nightshade - YouTube

TH1RT3EN is definitely a grower (at least with me) I didn't really like it at first, but I have started to like it more and more lately, it doesn't compete with old school Megadeth though.

The Batlord 11-12-2011 08:43 AM

I love cheesy, weedly weedly power metal. As long as it's not Dragonforce.

Salami 11-12-2011 10:25 AM

You don't mean quite as cheesy as this, do you?

Hammerfall - Last Man Standing - YouTube

Frankly I can't hear this without laughing my ass off.

The Batlord 11-12-2011 10:38 AM

Oh god, I love Hammerfall! But this is still the best for cheese metal...

Salami 11-12-2011 10:58 AM

LMAO, man! I'm pretty sure those guys live in the wrong century! It was oddly pleasant to listen to though. I still think that they've been out-cheesed by Hammerfall. At least we have some variety, which is better than the Dragonforce theme of "Oh we fight for the glory / to end the story / fight through the pain / fight through the rain / blah blah"

Howard the Duck 11-12-2011 10:59 AM

i only really like Helloween for that kinda stuff

mebbe some Iced Earth and Stratovarius also

I'd enjoy halloween a lot more with that going on. Sadly up our way, halloween means the odd group of two five year-olds usually with no costume and their dads telling them not to be rude.

No, no. Not halloween. Helloween.

Helloween, Iced Earth, and Stratovarius, better than Blind Guardian?! Scandalous!

NOOO! How embarassing is that! For some reason, the music made me think of halloween and I just made the wrong connection. It shows how ridiculously out of touch with metal I'm getting.

The Batlord 11-12-2011 11:14 AM

That doesn't mean you're getting out of touch. That song's over two decades old.

I was never really into metal. The most I ever did two decades ago was laugh at "Ugly Kid Joe" for being a hair metal band just when hair metal had gone out of fashion.

The Batlord 11-12-2011 11:23 AM

 Well, you should definitely dig on some Blind Guardian and Helloween. Good metal for people without personality disorders.

Salami 11-12-2011 11:23 AM

I am a salami.

The Batlord 11-12-2011 11:25 AM

And I am a leader among bats.

Salami 11-12-2011 11:32 AM

Fine, I'll go and dig some Helloween and Blind Guardian. I don't really have any major personality disorders, apart from some weird obsession with hating Coldplay and the fact that I have ginger hair.

Fail.

Salami 11-12-2011 11:37 AM

That's me.

I suppose I did say "apart from".

It's okay. My facial hair is reddish brown, so I only have part of a soul. So I understand what you're going through.

Salami 11-12-2011 11:46 AM

I hate South Park just for that episode. And yes, no-one thinks I'm a proper person now. I've had random lads just point at me and shout "GINGER!" and think that they are SO smart...

Bit weird for a conversation about metal....
