Anyway, in the Slayer vs. Metallica thread, Batty, you just a moment ago mentioned Metallica demos, and I wasn't aware those existed, and this...

...is pretty cool. The Battery instrumental sounds kick ass (it already is, but more) in lo-fi. The vocal version obviously sounds horribly distorted, but I quite like instrumentals of any and all songs, so this is great. Oddly, I found the solo on this version also better, possibly because it's lo-fi.

Actually I was talking about their demo from before they were signed back in 1982.

BTW, "The Mechanix" is actually the song that became "Four Horsemen". It was written by Mustaine when he was still in the band, but he asked them not to record it when they booted him. Their solution was to rewrite it. I'm sure Dave was not pleased.

And this would be the song from the Metal Massacre compilation, which was their first recording. Lars actually formed Metallica just so they could put a song on this record.

Diamond Head first broke up in '85, but they reformed and released another album in '94, I guess because of some notice thanks to Metallica. If you forget Lightning to the Nations, they sound like a really good but heavier version of Def Leppard. Though why you would release an album that sounded like Def Leppard in 1994 escapes me.

I'd have to disagree, Satan's album Court in the Act is by far the best NWOBHM release in my opinion.

I'm NOT a fan of the singer, but the music (riffs) are quite good.

Actually the singer is kinda growing on me. Having some serious flashbacks to Saw Wings with the singer's similarities to early Halford, like this guy could be his twin for real.
EDIT: Ok yeah, this guy is Rob Halford's twin, no debate. He sounds SO similar to him it's not even funny.

^ Great album, but I think you'd like Night Of The Stormrider more in some ways.

On another note...glam metal perfection below fellas.

If you're gonna listen to Iced Earth you need to hear their "real" singer.

This was wicked hard to find, and I'm still not sure what the proper name for the album is called (war machine, machine of war, or something else???), but it was at least worth the effort I think finding it.

This demo redefines the term lo-fi, and the cover too: it resembles more an ad than anything else.

The Metal Archives should always be your first stop for researching a band's discography. Have you already listened to Unholy Death yet?
