Holy ****ing god, I could listen to Danzig all day. Why more metal bands don't incorporate the blues into their sound I have no idea.

Blake from nachtmystium commented in an interview i'm not going to bother to find that he had actually incorporated explicit blues riff patterns into some song or another.

Like noticeable? I mean Motorhead's got mad blues in their sound but at a certain speed it loses its bluesocity. When they slow down, like on "Limb from Limb" off Overkill it's obvious, but when it's "Ace of Spades" it's kind of hard to tell.

Dunno. The nachtmystium I've heard sounded like generic try hard black metal; so I didn't investigate further. I just looked up interviews with him after I accidentally ran across a report of him going ape on cocaine (but not in the good bathory way).

The lack of metal & blues combination is weird, tho. Blues was such a a huge influence on Sabbath...dunno.

YES!!! Now you just need to start listening to Absurd to lose your soul completely. Please note that the sun wheel in their logo stands for the bad thing.

Bonus points for Grand Belial's Key.

Wait so Quorthon was into the booger sugar?

^^ the Q man had a major drug addiction problem for a while. If I remember correctly, the beginning of his addiction to cocaine (in particular) coincided with the beginning of the viking metal phase. Which totally makes sense, or something.

To be on topic, let me repost a song by Katharsis (the one from germany, but the black metal one at that)....

I know I've spoken of them here before, but, truly, they are great. In orthodox terms; this song is darkthrone worship filtered through a bestial war metal lense. In non-orthodox terms; it's black metal being so black metal it's bordering on the psychedelic.

I have this on tape. You can still find it available for less than $10. And, no, they are not NSBM (obviously).

That's not just one of the best black metal songs I've ever heard, but one of the best metal songs period. How they can keep that kind of energy and momentum going for over ten minutes I have no idea. Probably my favorite band you've turned me on to.

Edit: Oh and you said Quorthon went ape on cocaine. What happened?

I'm coming to the conclusion that Unknown Soldier was right about Lighting to the Nations being the best NWOBHM release (if you count only Iron Maiden's first two records as NWOBHM). It's just fantastic. Every song is different, perfectly realized, and necessary to the album. No wonder Metallica was obsessed with them.
