I really quite enjoyed the tremolo passages in that track. I think generally speaking, straight up black metal is at its best when a band can really put together solid harmonies and melodies whilst still sounding dissonant. I'd be interested in hearing something similar to this if you'd be willing to pass on some recommendations...
Hey,
I wasn't ignoring this, but I can't think of too many Black Metal bands that do this. The genre seems to bifurcate along melodic and raw lines; and I can't think of many that do it to the same extent as Destroyer 666 did on that song.
Axis of Advance have always used J. Read (Conqueror, Revenge) for their drums. The vocals remain in the harsh black metal style, but the guitars are melodic and the compositions generally exceeding 5 minutes. The drumming isn't as bombastic as you'd find on "War.Cult.Supremacy", but it is still hectic.
Otherwise - even though they aren't Black metal - I'd say Incantation may be your best bet. The band includes Paul Ledneny (Havohej, Profanatica) as a former member, and there's a definite similarity in the style. So, although the band is without a doubt death metal, there's a Black Metal influence - especially in the riffing. My personal favorite is their "Diabolical Conquest" album, although their debut - "Onward to Golgotha" - is also considered a classic by many.
If you feel like fast-forwarding, try this track starting at the 1:40 mark.
Apologies, I wish I could've been more helpful. Perhaps someone else would feel like chiming in with their $0.02?

I love how this band combines old school black metal with doom/sludge. They sound like a first wave black metal band for the new millennium.

I ****ing love Jesu, but personally I find Immortal to be more cheese than substance in that they seem so intent on being the lords of black metal that I can't take their music seriously

Well, they can come up with a really good riff. My impression of them is they really don't take their music that seriously, even though they're one of the more important bands to come out of Norway. They put out a couple of heavy metal, let alone black metal classics in "At The Heart of Winter" and "Sons of Northern Darkness", both have epic performances. Their preceding albums were classic "cold" Norwegian BM, which are also worth checking out.
