^Savatage is timeless
Carcass - Symposium of Sickness - YouTube Brilliant solo towards the end of this one. Great riffs too.

Avant garde gothic metal. Lord Vampyr is so titties, always has been. Bonus points for carnival intro.

All in all I prefer Hammerfall, which is due entirely to my subjective, goofy tastes, but Blind Guardian is certainly the best power metal band of all time.

Love me some Iced Earth. And they can give Blind Guardian a run for their money, but Iced Earth has always had a consitency problem. I haven't listened to their first, but I've heard lukewarmish things abou it. Night of the Stormrider is fantastic but those vocals are subpar. Half of Burnt Offerings is fantastic, but they still hadn't quite got down what they were trying to do. Dark Saga has great songs, but that simplistic Black Album quality it has kind of makes it uneven as well. The only truly front-to-back defining album they ever made was Something Wicked This Way Comes. After that Horror Show just...I can't quite put my finger on it. The songs are there, but as an album it just doesn't quite have the soul it should. Maybe it's just the goofy concept. And we won't discuss the Ripper albums.
Blind Guardian on the other hand have churned out brilliant albums pretty much back-to-back-to-back.
