I've been a Megadeth fan since I was thirteen or fourteen, which means I've literally been listening to them for half of my life, but I've always ignored a lot of their nineties output. By the time I got around to those albums I'd come to the conclusion that I had no desire to. I mean, once I'd listened to Risk I figured ignorance was bliss. Besides, I had Exodus and Bathory to listen to now.

So I've actually never heard this album past "A Tout Le Monde". I was missing out. When I heard it compared to Countdown to Extinction I didn't have particularly high hopes. As much as that album did right ("Symphony of Destruction", "Skin o' My Teeth", "Sweating Bullets") that album had some embarrassing moments (the goofy vocals, the goofy song titles, and I don't want anyone to ever know that one of my favorite bands ever recorded "Captive Honor"), so I figured Youthanasia would just be a worse version of an album I've been liking less and less for years. Granted this is my first listen, but this is a riff monster. And there are no songs called "Foreclosure of a Dream", "Architecture of Aggression", or "Psychotron".

I still have no desire to ever listen to Cryptic Writings though.

What are you talking about? The cheesy kid vocals are the entire reason to listen to this, otherwise it's bog standard power metal. I mean, without the little girl that Dragonforce solo is as boring as any other Dragonforce solo, but with her...time stands still.

I would be more enthused to try CW over Risk, haha.

I've already listened to Risk though. It put me off the general idea of latter day Megadeth. The only good song on that whole album was "Breadline". Even "Prince of Darkness", "Insomnia", and "Crush 'Em", all songs that I loved back in high school, are kind of painful these days.

haha, I just noticed this "band" today. Was so fascinated I created a thread about it.

Then I recalled a real band of 3 Japanese girls making heavy music that is pretty great: Bleach

But Bleach is a different thing. Anyway, they've long since disbanded so I guess Melt Banana can remain the only popular heavy Japanese band.

I remember Urban talking about these guys a while back, and since I'm in the mood for some straight up rock I figured now was as good a time as any. Pretty awesome. Glam metal done right.

Kinda sounds like Motley Crue.

Well, yeah. Pretty much all glam metal sounds like Motley Crue, but the important thing is they don't sound like Poison. Not that I don't like Poison but I can't take any band that sounds like them at all seriously.
