I've heard the name Otep before but never had any real interest in them. Then I heard a song off Saint's Row 3 that was pretty decent so I'm giving them a shot. According to Wikipedia they're nu metal. I get that, but they're nu metal by way of death metal. It's odd. Not sure how I feel about it yet. Infinitely better than Limp Bizkit at least. Still, I never thought I'd hear of "extreme nu metal".

I did like Dark Funeral back in the day.
"Watain" and "Belphegor" are pretty bad ass.
"Crow Black Sky" is pretty good, they're from South Africa.
If you're gonna pass judgement on Venom then you should at least listen to them when they were still good.

Totally a double-post but whatevs. Got bored of Otep and have switched to Exodus. It amazes me that with a bassist already gone, and now the rest of the old line-up gone (including the singer), that Gary Holt managed to record their best album since Bonded By Blood. Still their best reunion album too, though the first half of Tempo of the Damned is almost untouchable (shame about the second half).

My first interpretation of an influence I hear is 70s Yes, to 80s Ozzy and Friends and hints of Ronnie James Dio are obviously heard throughout the song. I can tell they were fans of Randy Rhoads from a basic standpoint musically of course. It does seem to somewhat dry up towards the end of the song. A spectacular single it just lacks a good ending on my part. The intro reminds me a lot of Alice Cooper on and off throughout the song.

Been listening to the Demilich songs that were just released on the box set. Still as great as ever. Wish they would put out some new material.

I didn't really pass judgement on anything. Just a little anecdote bruh!
I listened, and Possessed sounds better to me, lol. It's just nostalgia anyway.
I have heard more than enough Venom to know I don't really care for them. Sorry!

Cheers!

I've always liked Sepultura, but I can't say that I've ever really loved them. I dig their early stuff, as in Morbid Visions, for being so ugly sounding, but they're certainly not the best early black metal band. And their late eighties stuff is good brutal thrash, but if I want that kind of thing I'd rather listen to Exhorder or Devastation. Chaos A.D. is pretty sweet, but I don't listen to it all that much. So I'd never really bothered listening to Roots. I sort of randomly decided to listen to it today, and I figured I wouldn't hate it. I mean I remember digging the title track back in high school. But even that song is boring the hell out of me right now. Maybe if I was a Sep fan back in the day and then heard this when it came out I would've been pissed off, but right now all I can summon up is indifference.

Welcome back, dude! I was afraid you'd flown the coop for good.

Edit: I was wondering if maybe I just wasn't in a metal mood today. I didn't care about Sepultura, then I didn't care about Earth Crisis (not metal but close enough). Then I put on Exhorder and it was all good. Amazing, amazing band. The problem with most groove metal is that the bands almost always forget to put some actual energy into the heavy riffing. Exhorder have no such problem.

The only The Haunted album I give even the slightest **** about is rEVOLVEr. The early stuff is thrashy melodeath that's duller than dishwater. I haven't heard their newer music but I have heard awful things. I'll have to check it out at some point but in the meantime this album is all I care about. But it's ****ing killer.
