Meh, I don't think their sound is very deep or rewarding. If you're already listening to more nuanced metal, they don't have much appeal - concurrently, because they strive for some noodly-noodly progressive stuff, they just aren't a fun band to reaxl. The catchy-yet-progressive angle they're trying for is a bitch, which is a shame because I hear so many moments & bits I like but as a whole they disappoint.

Ok, so this will be somewhat long...
Circle of Ouroborus are from Finland. Call it post-black metal, but their non-metal touchstone is Joy Division. Melancholy describes them quite well. Impiety do... something along the lines of black/death or war metal or bestial black metal. Nothing intellectual, but fun & heavy & unique without trying to be so. PanzerBastard - umm, d-beat bathory/venom black metal? Super fun!

Anaal Nathrakh - "The Supreme Necrotic Audnance"
The Batlord thought I might like this. He was right! This song makes me curious to hear more from the band (and to learn what they are saying). I also skimmed a good interview of Anaal Nathrakh: The Quietus | Features | In Extremis | A Supreme Necrotic Audience: Anaal Nathrakh Interviewed. I especially liked this part, when Dave Hunt said: "One of the most exciting conversations I can remember us having on sound was on the Underground in London. On the train, someone left the window open and you could hear all the clattering as it was going through the tunnels, and everyone else is just sitting there reading the newspaper, and there's me and him in the corner of the carriage going 'Ah, listen to that, mate! Ah, can you hear that? That's brilliant!' But that's just what we're like. [laughs]" ^ This made me smile, because I do the same thing with above-ground trains. When I'm walking on a footpath that goes under train tracks, and a train happens to be rushing by overhead, I stand still and close my eyes and just listen to the deep, monstrous rumble. It's wonderful, so chaotic, all that pent-up energy in the sound on the verge of exploding out of control. Ahh. Anaal Nathrakh - The Supreme Necrotic Audnance - YouTube

Turn the bass up way, way high on this one. It starts off like Om, then turns into a sludge metal freakout, then ends with pure noise. Love it, so much. Anyone have any recommendations for similar bands?

I've been re-visiting Testament for the umpteenth time. I can't really say they're underrated because they're super popular but I've always thought that their first few albums deserve more respect of 80s thrash fans than they have.

And speaking of sludge, this is a crust/sludgecore/insert ridiculous metal subgenre here band. Found it from that new list in the Punk section, the "Great Hardcore Countdown" or whatever it's called. Good band. Problem is, most of their songs are so short that they don't scrobble, which pains me greatly, but whatever, I'll survive somehow.

If you don't know absu, they're known for the drumming:
...wonderful song, I think, even if it is noodly-noodly. Korgul the Exterminator are from Spain, playing some catchy black/thrash. The Young Gods, representing the Swiss, play some sort of Industrial Rock or Metal. If you're lazy, you can find all of these on spotify, too
