The Thrash Metal thread
a companion peice to my Death Metal thread. Same thing as that one, only for the discussion of thrash (and it's related styles and inspired styles)
The Albums Wars with Sadus vs. Morbid Saint vs. Devestation made me wanna go for this one. So many gems in the style that may not get the attention it deserves. So let's start with a band I enjoy. Epidemic's "Decameron" album is one of the best I have listened to. A must hear for people into thrash who have not heard it. Decameron by Epidemic : Reviews and Ratings - Rate Your Music http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Epidemic/3560 So who are some favorites of people here.... post something. Let's get this started and maybe help some people discover some gems..

Probably amongst my all-time favorites:
Darkness Descends by Dark Angel : Reviews and Ratings - Rate Your Music Such a great release. Featuring the drumming of the always great Gene Hoglan.

I've been listening to thrash for about ten years now. It's what got me into metal and music in general. Still love it to this day.
Post something? How about Jag Panzer? They're pretty overlooked, but their first album is pretty amazing power/thrash metal.

Yeah, Thrash Metal was my first venture into the world of metal.
The song that started it all for me: Stumbled upon the album at the local music store in the cut out bin. They had it for $2 and I thought the cover looked amazing, so I picked it up, took it home and popped it in my walkman cause I thought my parents would freak out if they heard something like that coming out of my stereo. The drums in that song and first 90 seconds made my mouth drop... was amazing to me... the heaviest thing I had heard at the time. I listened to it over and over, and when I got my allowance I would buy Slayer tapes (cause I got enough to only get cassettes, not CD's... at the time tapes were about $9.99 and CD's $12.99, I got $12 allowance) and listen to them on my walkman (even in detention and in school suspensions). So Thrash has it's place for me as my first venture into the world of Metal music.

Exhorder is the only one there that I am not very familiar with. I think most know them cause of the Pantera comparison, and how many cried that Pantera was a clone of Exhorder when they changed their style for "Cowboys from Hell". I have their albums on my computer here, should get around to listening to them.
Morbid Saint is amazing. Love that record and the other one as well. Sacred Reich, I do not know.. need to give em a few more listens.. but they have not really gripped me from what I have heard. Will listen to them again soon. Sometimes it is just a matter of being in the right frame of mind. Whiplash is another one I should revisit. Heard a few tracks by them and enjoyed them.

As for Exhorder, well one of their two albums was thrash and the other was groove. Decent albums but nothing brilliant.........but then again maybe I should listen to both again as well. |

Ahhh, I anticipated the big 4 talk when i started it, inescapable really... Fine with me if people wanna discuss them, but the point is to try to expose them to some other bands besides them. Hopefully it works to get people into the style more.
Wait to see how long it takes, haha.... Looking at my Death Metal thread, I do not think there has even been a single mention of Cannibal Corpse...
