I'd have to disagree. Seeing them play Master of Puppets in it's entirety a few years back is something I will remember for the rest of my life.

I don`t think I`ve ever seen Swiss thrash band Coroner ever mentioned on any thread. I first listened to them a couple of years ago and quickly forgot about them, but have been listening to them again recently and they are a forgotten gem of a band.

They played a progressive thrash metal in a very similiar style to Voivod, probably not as quite as complex as Voivod but they are far more accessible due to a much better lead vocalist. Their two classic albums are No More Color and Mental Vortex

They reformed this year purely for a couple of live shows and I got to see them. I was absolutely made up as I am a big fan and they were technically brilliant.

Another one of those ticked columns regarding things to do or hear

the metal specialist shop has both on cassette - just a matter of time before I procure them

I absolutely love Mental Vortex. Their cover of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" is an absolutely mind blowing way to end a great album. Highly suggest it to anyone who hasn't listened.

However, I haven't even touched any of their other work... I'll have to get on that.

That`s always been a fantastic song and agree its a mind blowing way to end the album. Type O Negative also did a great cover of the same song as well as part of a Beatles medley on their World Coming Down album.

Yeah I saw Voivod a couple of years back. Coroner were probably the tightest out of the two but I was right at the front for Voivod and they put on a better show if that makes sense. Both were killer though and so glad I got to see them.

Speaking of Coroner, what are your opinions on Grin? I haven't listened yet, but know that they take industrial influences into their mix. How does that mix with the prog thrash they were already playing, and how does the album sound? Good, bad?

After the first few songs you think this album is really going to be great, but then the whole thing just emerges into a series of overly long-sounding songs that are full of repetition (this is where the industrial influence comes in) Definitely not essential and probably best reserved for fans of the band..........unless of course you like repetiton.

Its saving grace though, is that it has some great guitar riffs.
