Depressive Suicidal Black Metal
What are peoples opinions on this stylistic offshoot? For those unfamiliar, it shares the Lo-Fi production values of Black Metal, but typically exhibits a more ambient, mid-tempo sound, with treble-heavy guitars and a focus on themes of an inward nature, such as depression and anxiety, as opposed to the more profane, anti-Christianity of Black Metal.
Whilst thinking the term 'Depressive Suicidal Black Metal' is ridiculous, I do actually enjoy the sound a lot. Bands such as Sortsind, Lyrinx, Austere and Nyktalgia have released some stonking albums. Over to you. Last edited by Sneer; 08-30-2011 at 06:05 PM. |

But their music is Black Metal that focuses on themes of depression and suicide. The phrase DSBM may sound comical but it's a more frankly apt subgenre tag than most.
I like Xasthur (who hails from sunny California). Here's a video of him playing live with the acclaimed Nachtmystium. Good shit here.
