Default The DECLINE of the RECORD LABEL : who or what is to BLAME???

Record Labels are falling apart everyday... what lead to this? Is a record label irrelevant now days with the new wave of "convenience" that the internet provides? (i.e. home studios, countless t shirt companies, cd production companies.) What can a label do for a band that they can't do themselves? Your thoughts...

Do you fear that a "lack of industry" will also lead to a lack of seeing your favorite bands come to your hometown or area? Most bands that come around are funded by their labels. If they are unsigned they will probably more than likely stick to their region. I'm not saying this is for sure...these are only my thoughts.

If there is enough clamor for a concert in one location, it can be booked, and the artist can fly out there. More difficult in the short run, maybe, but not impossible. I'm quite pleased with the amount of touring a lot of these dubstep artists are doing. A lot of those guys are complete do it themselves types.

Where did you get that figure? Labels tend to get the least amount of money from tours.

So you are saying the tour funds itself for transportation, stage set ups, booking venues, etc?

Artists usually support themselves stop to stop. I hear artists fund must of the tour. Labels squeeze whatever else they can afterwards.

For example, I heard that bands that play Warped Tour lose money. They pay to play at the gig, even the big acts...
