Central Indiana is basically teeny-bopper hipster and post-hardcore bands, or the occasional Coldplay wannabes. The next best thing is a deathgroove band called The Surface from Ohio. They haven't released an album yet or anything, but you can find them on Facebook. Great band

I live in southeastern Ohio and there are some good musicians and bands that come from this rural area. One band that is right across the Ohio river in Pt Pleasant West Virginia has been opening up for major bands for the last couple of years now, their band name is Bobaflex.

Bobaflex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are 3 or 4 classic rock cover bands that have been playing for 30 years or so and they are all outstanding bands with good vocalist. Our band plays venues mostly in the Parkersburg, W.Va. and Belpre, Oh. area.

Our local band Blitzkrieg is one of the best classic rock cover bands in the area, these guys kick ass!

Reno's music scene is pretty shit. Like Alfred's scene, most of our bands are cover bands that play at casinos, generic hard rock imitators, and metalcore bands. There's also some sludge/ stoner metal bands, but they all want to either be Sleep or Down so hard it hurts. I think the only notable band to come out of Reno was 7 Seconds, and that's only if you like straight edge. Oh yes, for some reason Reno is a mecca for "straight edge" and it say it in quotations because it's actually classified as a gang by the local police because of the high amount of fights that break out during shows involving them. All in all, fuck this scene.

Yea, I'm sure they are somewhere in there, but I don't follow it really.

There's plenty of venues in my town that host bands and artists and there's always something happening every week. There's two places that host open-mic nights during the week and they're great for showcasing budding singer-songwriters and musicians. Even though it's usually the same few people that always play them it's always nice to hear new songs from them and also just to have a good night out and mingle with people. There's also a small theatre in town that hosts intimate gigs for singer-songwriters and they're always really great to go to.

One night every two months a bar in my town hosts multiple bands on two stages and it's a gig that all the local bands want to play. The bands usually play a mixture of originals and covers but that can vary from band to band. Bands often range from middle-of-the-road indie to pop-punk to generic metal but there's always one or two bands that sound pretty interesting.

There's also all-ages gigs organised in various locations from time to time and I used to go to them when I was in school. The bands that usually play them are nearly always metal cover bands and always have to play some Metallica, Slayer or RATM songs for some strange reason. Most of the people that go to them are complete posers and are only there to be seen with friends.

Although my town has a healthy DIY ethic it seems to be very difficult for bands to get recognised nationally or even in other towns. Some bands do get some sort of recognition but this is fairly limited and often bands don't stay together too long.

there's a jamming studio near my house and i overhear the occassional good black metal band, but unfortunately black metal is frowned upon in my neck of the woods
