Ok have listened to both albums and Cobalt wins quite easily. Cobalt is a rarity for me when it comes to black metal albums, its full of power and energy instead of the bleak atmospherics and shrieked vocals typical of the genre and its a must listen to album and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. The Deathspell Omega album was far from bad and had a lot of really good stuff on it, but it was what I was expecting to hear and at 77 mins, it was too fucking long.

Yeah... I probably should have suggested Paracletus (2010) instead, it's only 42 minutes long, and for many people DSO is a new band, and an hour and 20 minutes is quite a lot of time to devote to it.

THE METAL WARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REVAMP 2012 THE OFFICIAL RULES.
Ok I decided to put everything here under one banner so everybody knows what is what. The format will flow like so> 1. I will PM somebody from the list (see official list below) I will do this now as a lucky dip draw (more exciting) and will do this a couple of days before a current war ends, so the person can decide which topic and albums they want selected. If the person doesn't respond for whatever reason their turn will pass to soembody else on the list. 2. The person will now select ALL the albums for their own war and of course keeping strictly within the criteria of their chosen topic (its their war so they can decide the albums, at the start of each war I will list the albums they have chosen). They can select a minimum of 4 albums a short war or a maximum of 8 albums a long war (this can be assessed as we go along). They will need to tell me which order they would like the albums to go on at. For example the weaker albums first and the stronger coming later, or stronger first and weaker later, or a mixture. Whatever way its done the strongest overall album and eventual winner will be left standing at the end anyway. 3. Only 2 albums from each persons list will ever be on at any one time, with the loser making way for the next album. This means as each battle within the war goes by, there will only ever be one new album to listen to (which should help people participate more) 4. Voting will be the same as aways, with one vote per person. When a new album comes up, the votes will be reset to 0 and any previous votes will be stored by me to be tallied up at the end of the war. The reason for this type of voting, is at the end of the war every album will be put in order, from winner down to loser giving the war more substance. 5. When the person selects their topic and albums, they should take a few lines explaining why they have selected this topic and the albums (this is optional but it sets the mood better for the war) and I will copy and paste their comments at the start of the war. 6. As of yet their is no clear time length on these wars and each one could be as little as a week or a max of 3 weeks (we'll play it by ear) 7. Their will be some issues with this new format but I'm sure they can be tweaked as we go along. The Official List for Metal Wars has 16 names> Please note ANYBODY on the forum can vote in any war, but this official list is just for those members who are allowed to chose a topic and its albums. If you want to be added to this list PM me, but bear in mind to be on this list you need to contribute to the wars on a reasonable basis. Anybody on this list that doesn't really contribute for whatever reason will be removed (the reason for this is simple, if the list grows too big and has too many non contributors, too many members will lose out on the possibility of selecting an album wars) Unknown Soldier The Batlord Il Duce Janszoon Loathsome Pete Bastard of Young Mondo Bungle Jackhammer Metal Conoisseur Lolpocolypse RCVA Unrelenting Alfred Mrdood Hip Hop Bunny Hop King Matt Last edited by Unknown Soldier; 01-15-2012 at 11:51 AM. |

Black Sabbath the Ozzy Era and Those First Classic 6 Albums (Unknown Soldier) As Metal Wars has been revamped for 2012, I've decided to select the most revered band in the history of metal and certainly the most influential to begin this revamp. Most on here will know these albums, if you don't then shame on you! But those of you that do know them, this is the time to refresh yourself and give them another twirl. There is also a Black Sabbath album thread on here, so it will be interesting to see how the voting goes on here. These albums were built to last and come from a time when albums were a glorious 30 to 40 mins in length and not lengthy borefests. These albums were so good, that only Led Zeppelin from the heavy side of the music spectrum in the 1970s could equally boast 6 classic albums in a row. The Albums Selected Black Sabbath 1970 Sabotage 1975 Paranoid 1970 Black Sabbath Vol.4 1972 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 1973 Master Of Reality 1971 Again take a few lines explaining your vote and remember its winner stays on.
