Preparing for a semi-state game so I won't have time to listen to these...darn. And if anyone saw the spammer named "SwadleysGay" on here earlier I apologize. One of my friends at school saw me on here, made an account, and went hard for about forty minutes. If I did vote I would pick Coroner. I actually don't mind the vocals at all. However, if Nothingface would have been the chosen Voivod album it would have earned my vote.

A lot of people seem to like this Voivod album, sure there is some good stuff on it but I`ve always felt it was choppy, as the band were still trying to find their unique prog-thrash sound, had it been Dimension Hatross or Nothingface here it would have been a much tougher choice. This Coroner album is their best along with Mental Vortex and both stand as classics within the prog-thrash genre, so there is no choice really on who is going to win this battle. Band for band I feel Coroner were superior as well.

Coroner were doing fine work in 1989 considering that thrash was all but dead. But all early Voivod beats No More Color by a country mile.
Without going into an analysis of thrash circa the late 1980s, I'll just say that I find Voivod much more fun and interesting. No More Color - 3 Killing Technology - 1

Coroner wins for me. I like the riffs better, and the vocals on Killing Technology annoy me. Voivod's vocals don't bother me as much on Nothingface, since that album was more of a prog rock approach. They kind of ruin the thrashy KT album though. Vocals are what I am the most picky about (which is why I see Vio-lence's "Eternal Nightmare" as one of the greatest tragedies of metal)

Coroner win that battle 4-2, next up courtesy of Unrelenting are these two very recent black metal albums with post-rock influences, one band is from England (Fen they just had to be from East Anglia) and the other from Ireland, and could those covers be anything other than black metal!!!

Both bands i found this year from their newest releases, so i'm looking forward to going back and discovering their early stuff. I'm starting with Fen right now, so far so good. Will give Altar of Plagues album a listen tomorrow.

Alright I'm definitely going to have to go with Altar of Plagues on this one as it comes closest to replicating the aesthetic of Agalloch without completely ripping them off. Fen... just isn't for me. Just for fun I listened to the new albums both bands dropped and found myself siding with Altar of Plagues again.
Altar of Plagues - 1 Fen - 0 Don't crowd in all at once guys. |
