Alright. As much as Queensryche's dark, pop metal is a revelation that will make me go out and buy it at the next opportunity I gotta go with Maiden on this one. If it weren't Powerslave, then things would probably be different, but Powerslave is just the perfect heavy metal album. It's everything that I think of when I think of traditional metal. It's music is just the right combo of infectious pop hooks, galloping straight up headbanging riffs, and epic atmosphere. The lyrics capture the shtick of metal without sounding cliched and goofy. Not to mention the album cover is not just the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it beats sliced bread hands down. And not being the biggest prog fan, I'm not so hot on 10 min+ songs, but "The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" is quite possibly the only one that holds my attention for the entire thirteen minutes of it's perfect existence. If god made a heavy metal album, it would still suck in comparison to Powerslave.

Powerslave - 4 I don't like, at all, how the vocals overpowered the music for Queensryche. On top of that, I don't like how the vocalist sounds. Worst, I don't care that the vocalist is trying to get across some story. Powerslave isn't perfect, but it is fun.

I've never gotten into Operation: Mindcrime, despite a few attempts. It's always cool for 3-4 songs, then it all gets too similar and blends together for me. Powerslave, on the other hand, is one of my favourite albums of all time, and one of Maiden's 3 best. So:

A pity you're not where it's at, that war took place in 2011.

I had both of these albums when they first came out. Tate has always been a solid vocalist, and DeGarmo has some brilliant work, but Powerslave was put in the cassette deck and didn't come out until the tape broke. Probably from me rewinding/fastforwarding until I got ROTAM down.

It really is one of the best songs ever recorded. Definitely in the top five of Maiden's best songs.
