I'm not really a fan of both. Pyromania sounds a little more cheesy and less exciting to me than Out of the Cellar. So I'm going with Ratt here.

which, at the time, was only available with the purchase of his helicopter, the Dragonfly, and so was quite a commodity to an 80s kid. Also, I used to like Ratt so, even though I haven't listened to either of these for probably 20 years (at least) I thought I'd give this contest an honest shot. Here are the results: I listened to both albums before making my choice. 1st I put on Pyromania and was pleasantly surprised with the first track, "Rock! Rock! ('Til You Drop)" because it was sorta heavy. The rest of the album, though, was boring to say the least. While the band was clearly skilled the album is laden with soft rock numbers peppered with moments of love ballad, lighters-in-the-air moments throughout. Even within each song. I couldn't wait to make it stop, which it did after a very difficult 45 minutes of my life. Then I listened to 'Out of the Cellar' and was truly horrified. This album sucks dick big time. For a band that prided itself on its sexual prowess, they sure made a hell of a limp-dick piece of shit album this time around. It pretty much all blended together with its Heavy Metal Lite riffs and Peter Searcy's monotonous screechy cock rock vocals. I even re-listened to Pyromania again just to make sure how bad the Ratt album is. I was correct. Def Leppard is boring as hell on this album but they have some style and creativity at least. Def Leppard: 2 Ratt: 2

Pyromania, the last good Def Leppard record before they turned into complete pop sh****t.
Def Leppard: 3 Ratt: 2

Ratt is my choice for being a little more hard rocking than Def Leppard. Nobody Rides For Free is one of my favorite singles by Ratt. Def Leppard had a better debut though. Photograph is my personal fav song by them. I cant believe I actuaky liked Pour Some Sugar On Me years ago. ha, ha! Ratt - 3 Def Leppard - 3

Jeez I'm shocked to see Ratt doing so well here. I actually suggested the Ratt debut to The Batlord, as he was getting all hot and bothered over which albums to choose and as always I was glad to give the kid a hand on these things so I threw in Ratt.
As for the albums, Pyromania is one of the most important commercial metal sounding albums ever made and possibly the best. The band tightened up all the hooks from their previous release High N Dry and struck gold with Pyro. There's hardly a duff track on the whole album, "Action Not Words" is the only weak link on the album. Like Number of the Beast and British Steel, Pyromania was a landmark metal release from the 1980s and deserves all its plaudits. The Ratt album is good and in fact prior to recording I think the band must have been listening to a lot of Def Leppard themselves its that influenced by Def Leppard. The singing is different by Stephen Pearcy and the riffs are far more infused with that LA sleaze sound so typical of the time. But the album is still a notch down from Pyro, so there is only one winner here. Def Leppard -4 Ratt -3

Out of the Cellar has some great riffs, but other than that, there's not much there. The songs are heavy enough to satisfy ("Lack of Communication" simply crushes), but there's not really much interesting going on. It's certainly great fun listening to this album, but they seem to be a one trick pony.
Pyromania on the other hand, isn't the heaviest album on Earth in case you hadn't noticed, but the hooks on this album are to die for. Saying that this band is pop metal like it's an insult is missing the point entirely. This band's pop hooks are simply devastating, and I am in awe that they manage shove a near infinite number of them down your unworthy throats, without ever seeming to be in danger of running out of them, for forty five minutes straight. Def Leppard - 5 Ratt - 3 I think "Wild Bill" has something he needs to tell his parents.
