ok i have to admit i was having a hard time getting into Earth

this album sorta clicked with me better yesterday, as i really concentrated on it and got its "nuances"

with 3 songs all around the 20 minute mark or longer, it doesn't really get "boring", as there are a lot of strange things going on, and the opening track "Seven Angels" does have a pretty solid riff

saying that, though, i do have major problems with the guitar tones throughout, Dylan uses too much flanger and the tone in itself is whiny and reedy, unlike say Sunn O))) which uses really "fat" tones

so I'll give this to Naked City on a technical issue alone, and also because Leng Tch'e is on the whole a much more interesting listen

Naked City - 1
Earth - 0

I like that Earth album and have owned it for a long time, but truth be told, when I started thinking about it I realized I haven't listened to it in about half a decade. Thinking about this some more, I realized that it's probably my least favorite Earth album, in large part due to what Howard mentioned about the guitar tone. So anyway, I'm voting Naked City.

Naked City - 2
Earth - 0

I liked the Earth album but thought at times it just sounded too monotonous, what it did do very well though, was to present a menacing and brooding sound, something I actually prefer over the bleak sounding landscapes of black metal.
Naked City -3
Eart -0

I'm guessing there are no more votes coming in here, so Naked City and Leng Tch'e wrap this up. Also thanks to Frownland for coming up with the Drone Metal showdown, as its a sub-genre that's not often mentioned much on the metal boards.

Ok before I ask somebody to come up with a topic and some albums, here is a quick battle by me (just 4 albums)

The Best Album That Metallica Never Released;)

As the title suggests, here are four albums that were done by bands who very much had their own style, but for an album or two adopted a James Hetfield style bark to their sound, added Metallica style riffs into the mix, or just had a Metallica type feel to their sound, usually for commercial reasons. These albums though imo, are still great metal releases and great homages to classic era Metallica.

Iron Maiden 3
Saxon 1
