I throughly enjoyed both albums but for different reasons. Sure, Acid Bath might be more dynamic as the album shifts from extreme metal, to sludge, to almost post-grunge (in the best possible way) at times. Also gotta love Dax Riggs as he is a fellow hoosier but, for me, Melvins are just better. Buzzo's manic howls with the immense, messianic, Sabbathy riffs and the small undercurrent of alt rock underneath it all just keep me pressing repeat. So...

Melvins - 5
Acid Bath - 5

does this count as a vote?

I think it should be disqualified for having no structure behind it.

I guess what I am asking is, does spam count towards Acid Bath beating Melvins and being the major upset of this one?

Well this battle needs one more vote to finish it. I hope that voter sees sense and votes Acid Bath, clearly the better album here.

As usual its either Metal Connoisseur or Lolpocolypse that have the annoying habit of voting late on and producing a deadlock

We really just need one vote now to move onto the next war. So if you haven't voted vote, do so!

Fine, I'll break the tie.

I've never been a huge fan of Acid Bath, though maybe I haven't listened to them enough and just don't "get" them yet. However, Melvins I love, and so...

Melvins - 6
Acid Bath - 5

Ok the Melvins win Best Sludge Metal Album of the Early 1990s by 6-5 from Acid Bath. The war achieved a total of 26 votes in total and so thanks to James for these suggestions.

The Final Order:
The Melvins-Bullhead
Acid Bath-When the Kite Strings Pop
Neurosis-Souls at Zero
Harvey Milk - My Love Is Higher Than Your Assessment of What My Love Could Be
Eyehategod - Take as Needed for Pain

Next war up has been chosen by Metal Connoisseur and will be up shortly.

Agreed, many thanks for exposing me to Harvey Milk! (that sounds quite odd when put in a different context)

Extreme Metal Albums With Symphonic Elements (Metal Connoisseur)

Unknown Soldier Says: Maybe I'm just old or its that I'm completely out of touch with the variety of metal acts of the 00's, as I don't know a single one of these albums selected. I've actually been thinking recently of really updating myself by incorportating a slot in my listening schedule for just metal albums of post 2000 and this would seem to be a great place to start.

The Albums Selected
Mirrorthrone-Carriers of Dust
Anoerexia Nervosa-Drudenhaus
Fleshgod Apocolypse-Oracles
Septic Flesh-The Great Mass
Hollenthons-With Vilest of Worms to Dwell
Haggard-Eppur Si Muove
